Immediate Goals


1.) To determine the prevalence of technology-dependent children and create a data base of needs.

2.) To communicate those needs to the community in order to

a) strengthen existing services,

b) support the creation of more efficient and effective services, and c) improve the interconnection of services.

3.) To identify unrecognized barriers in the care delivery for technology dependent children and remove them.

4.) To study facility or provider care models to determine how their quality and effectiveness can be improved.

Examples:

  • Study the effects of osteoporosis on non weight-bearing children
  • Study infectious diseases in subacute facilities and more effective treatments, including ventilator use.

5.) To address regulations, procedures, and funding mechanisms that impede top quality care for technology-dependent children.

Examples:

  • Help secure new funding sources, such as California Children’s Services (CCS) and Child Protective Services (CPS)
  • Help modify regulations to enable services such as non-invasive ventilation, respite services, etc.)
  • Support Start-up of Pediatric Day Healthcare
